We are getting reports of colonies being found short of stores, due to the variable weather making foraging difficult, combined with growing colonies having more mouths to feed. We strongly recommend therefore, that you check your colonies to make sure they have adequate stores and take the appropriate action if they are found to be light.
Feeding Bees and Starvation
Potential starvation risk!
Just to remind beekeepers everywhere to check their bees for stores as we are coming into a high risk time for starvation as the queen gets into gear and the remaining winter stores are used up. So give your hives a heft and if needed, give them some fondant or candy (not liquid feed!).

Honey Bee losses!
On the BBC news website today is an article on the losses of honey bees, due to last year's wet summer and the following long winter. Sadly, this will not be news to many of us and one wonders what the remaining summer and next winter has in store for our bees!
