Soil Association Petition to Ban Neonicotinoid Insecticides

The Soil Association report that  “The evidence against these chemicals is strong enough that they have been banned or suspended in France, Germany, Italy and Slovenia – but not yet in the UK.”

Read the Soil Association briefing and make up your own mind.  If you agree that Neonicotinoids should be banned in the UK sign their petition.

Bee and Equipment Sale Success

The Association’s bee and equipment sale on 2nd May had 34 bee colonies for sale, most complete with hives, and over 450 other lots.  Buyers were enthusiatic with a total sale value of £11,600 resulting in a £1,100 contribution to the association’s funds.

Special thanks go to all who attended to make this a success; Claire for a marathon three and a half hours of auctioning,  Tom and Barbara for their hard work and experience of running successfuly auctions, their daughter for organising the refreshments; David Geoff and Ian for helping Tom, again, with the bees and to everyone who took the time to come and talk to me during the day to ask about the association and beekeeping; and Geoff, again, for being on hand to talk to beekeepers and for helping me organise stacks of equipment for buyers to cram into their vehicles.   We signed up 9 new members on the day are now close to adding our 100th member for this year.  Good luck to everyone who bought bees.
