BBC Horizon Special – What’s Killing Our Bees?
First broadcast earlier this month on BBC2 and BBC4 this Horizon Special presented by Bill Turnbull, a beekeeper for twelve years, presents a well balanced look at the issues causing bee and other pollinator decline.
This programme is available to watch on the BBC iPlayer until 9:59 pm September 2nd, 2013.
Well worth watching.
Healthy Beekeeping App from Vita (Europe) Ltd. [Updated]
Vita (Europe) has just released a smartphone app which they describe as ‘The first-ever smartphone app about keeping healthy honeybees …” and go to say that “The app is free and gives beekeepers easy mobile access to information and photographs about honeybee disease identification and treatment. The app, suitable for nearly all smartphones and tablet devices, can be downloaded free from www.healthybeeguide.com. It runs on Apple or Android, on iPhones, iPads, Samsungs and Blackberrys and the full range of smart mobiles.”

Honey Bee losses!
On the BBC news website today is an article on the losses of honey bees, due to last year’s wet summer and the following long winter.
Sadly, this will not be news to many of us and one wonders what the remaining summer and next winter has in store for our bees!
Welsh Government – Draft Action Plan for Pollinators; consultation response
Welsh Government recently issued the Draft Action Plan for Pollinators for Wales as a consultation document.
The PBKA has put together a response, which it has sent on behalf of the association and the document is attached for information (see the link at the top of the page).
