Many thanks to all of you who came to this year’s Honey Show, whether to enter or just to come along and have a look or a chat. It was good to see some old friends and catch up and congratulations to all the worthy winners!
Members please remember that the annual Association lunch is on Sunday 17th November at the Beggar’s Reach Hotel near Burton, so if you would like to attend please contact Ian Richards to book your places as soon as possible!
Sunday July 28th marked a new step forward in the development of the Pembrokeshire Beekeeping Centre when Apiary Manager Paul Eades and volunteer John Dudman extracted the first honey in the Honey Kitchen.
All systems worked as planned and any minor glitches, such as a blown fuse in the uncapping tray, were quickly identified and dealt with.
We enjoyed a great afternoon at Tom and Barbara’s. Tom was able to show us his bee colonies including the creation of a classic artificial swarm – a simple process which we agreed is much easier to understand when demonstrated than when read about. Thanks too to the bees who had helped by raising a swarm cell for the purpose, obviously, of the demonstration.
We then got down to the serious business of afternoon tea. Copious quantities of sandwiches, scones, and cakes had been prepared by Barbara for the feast with a constant supply of tea to keep the whistle wet.
