Bee-Spoke Exhibition Wins Top Award!

Pembrokeshire County Council’s graphic design and sign units, who created the ‘Honey Kitchen’ and the ‘Bee Hive’ exhibition designs for the ‘Pembrokeshire Beekeeping Centre’ at Scolton Manor, have scooped a national award, winning ‘First Prize’ for the ‘Best Wide Format’ category at the recent APCOM (Association of Print and Communication Managers) annual awards at Manchester.

Gareth Johnson, Web Manager, said: “Although this is a team award, special recognition must go to our talented senior graphic designer Gary Matthews, whose creativity and inspiration has resulted in a brilliant piece of work.”

The exhibition shows the life cycle of the honey bee and honey production at Scolton Manor in an engaging way, which is accessible to families and visitors.

Paul Eades, Apiary Manager for Pembrokeshire Beekeepers’ Association said: “Our warmest congratulations and thanks to the talented design and print team for this award and a fantastic job! The new ‘Pembrokeshire Beekeeping Centre’ is proving hugely popular, with the ‘Honey Kitchen’ and ‘Bee Hive’ exhibition definitely the jewels in its crown!”

Saturday featured an Open Day at the Centre as part of National Countryside Week and the ‘Bee Hive’ exhibition was overflowing all afternoon with members of the public coming in to watch the honey extracting demonstration in the ‘Honey Kitchen’ and live pictures from the ‘hive cam’! Members of the PBKA were also present to talk to the public and give hive inspection demonstrations at the ‘Pine Tree Apiary’.

On Sunday, we held another beekeeping training session at the apiary, which was followed as always with tea and Rosemary’s fabulous (and dare I say it? – famous) cakes, which she always keeps us generously supplied with!
