IMPORTANT – *PBKA Membership changes for 2024*
Please note that there are changes to PBKA membership arrangements for 2024, due to changes in the policy conditions of the Liability insurance cover with the WBKA. This includes:
- PBKA membership, (including insurance cover), will now be for one person only (not families) at the normal membership rate (subject to the number of hives for BDI). NB. This category also includes non-beekeeping members.
- Partners must now join separately under the new ‘Partner’ category (see link below), which now costs £6.00 per calendar year, to ensure liability cover is in place. NB. Partners must live at the same address as a fully paid up PBKA Member.
- Note that there is no block family insurance cover available.
For further details and to join/renew as a full Member or Partner, please follow this link.
We are doing our best to try and make this change as seamless as possible, but please bear with us during this transition phase.

Great return of the PBKA Honey Show! 🐝
There was a successful return of the PBKA Honey Show at Scolton Manor, on Sunday 12th November 2023, after a long break. The standard of entries was very high, with new beekeepers walking away with some of the big prizes!
The new entry format proved very popular, giving everyone a chance to enter and for the event to be more inclusive.
Highlights included Abi and Mark Rodford, who are new beekeepers this year, winning a ‘First’ for their ‘Set Honey’, and also securing the “Best Honey in Show’ award.
Fe Longstaff, had several ‘Firsts’ with a number of very high standard entries and ultimately winning the ‘Most Points Scored in Show’ award! Fe also won the coveted ‘Bad Beekeeper of the Year’……(I am so jealous!!🤣)
Linda Jones got ‘Firsts’ for her ‘Beeswax Candles’ and ‘Novice Class’; and also a ‘First’ and ‘Best Exhibit in Show’, for her delicious ‘Honey Cake’.
Experienced beekeeper, John ‘Beeman’ Owen, had a ‘First’ for his excellent ‘Runny Honey’……
and David Moore, got a ‘First’ for his amazing wax skull in ‘Fancy Wax’, and another ‘First’ in the ‘Photograph’ category.
The full list will be published in due course.
It was great having so many drop in for a cuppa and a chat and it turned out to be a really lovely social event.
We plan to have the presentations at a later date and will advise PBKA members of the arrangements in due course.
Many thanks to all of you who came, despite the weather!
My personal thanks to the PBKA Committee, and the staff at Scolton Manor, who helped make it happen and a special thank you to our judge for the day, Diane Corbett.
Very best regards
Paul Eades
PBKA Chair
