Rake-a-thon this Sunday!

As previously advised to PBKA members via a recent email, we are working hard towards getting the new training apiary at Scolton up and running in time for the beginning of the season.

A lot of the preparatory groundworks have now been completed and the gravel now needs to be raked and wacked down.

We are therefore calling for volunteers to assist us this Sunday 6th February at 1pm, with a ‘Rake-a-thon’. So if you can, please come along and bring a sturdy garden rake with you plus a hot beverage if you like!

Also, if you own a ‘Plate Wacker’ and are prepared to bring it with you, please email pbkaapiarymanager@live.co.uk with details, so we can advise our Project Manager, Linda Jones, who will be running the session.

Directions: Note when you drive into the Scolton entrance, Turn Left (not right, up to the house) and drive past the old train towards some gates beyond that. We will get the gate open, so you can park close to the new site.

The weather forecast currently indicates some rain in the morning, but cloudy in the afternoon, so we should be ok. However,  in the event of any change in plans due to the weather, etc. we will put an updated post on the website.

We hope to see you on Sunday!

PBKA AGM – 23rd February 2022

Would all PBKA members please be advised that we will be holding our annual AGM on Wednesday 23rd February 2022 at 7.30pm.

Note that this meeting will be held virtually on-line partly due to the continuing Covid situation, plus the fact that some members may not be able to otherwise attend due to distance, or for other reasons. Details of the agenda and signing in protocol etc. to follow.

PBKA Membership renewals overdue!

Would PBKA members please note that membership renewals are now overdue for 2022.

Please ensure that you renew on our online system (see link below), in order to ensure continuity of your PBKA membership, Public/Products Liability insurance, and Bee Disease Insurance (BDI).

Note that we are also accepting applications for new PBKA Members and PBKA Supporters for 2022.

Volunteers required!

The PBKA has been very successful in recent years with its ever increasing membership, the development of the Pembrokeshire Beekeeping Centre and the continuing popularity of its training sessions at the Association apiaries. We also have other developments in the pipeline for 2022, including our new training apiary at Scolton, which we will be advising you on further in due course.

It all takes a lot of work to keep the Association running however and we are currently looking for additional volunteers to help!

Roles which currently need filling include:

  • Membership Secretary
  • Swarm Coordinators
  • Undertaking routine hive inspections, maintenance, etc. at the Association apiaries

If you are interested in becoming a PBKA volunteer, please email the Chair, Paul Eades, at pbkaapiarymanager@live.co.uk

Many thanks!
