Basic Assessment applications

You have until midnight on May 1st to submit your application to take the Basic Assessment in 2023.

With over 20 candidates already entered, I would like to request that you get your applications through to me ASAP, to give me the best possible chance of getting instructions out to Assessors and Associations in the first week of May.

Stewards wanted!

Stewards wanted for the WBKA stands at the RWAS Spring Festival 20th/21st May and the RWAS Summer show 24th/25th/26th/27th July. Stewarding for a few hours gains you free entry into the show. If you want to help please contact Jill Wheeler at: convention@wbka.com stating what day and am or pm for your stewarding slot. Stewarding starts at 8.45am and goes on until 6pm.

Colonies of Bees for sale!

Several nucs for sale on 6 National frames

Local bees in overwintered nucs for sale. Available from the third week April/ first week May and will be a minimum of 3/4 frames of eggs/ brood with 1-2 frames of stores. Should be ready to move into a full hive asap. Headed by a 2022 queen. Treated for Varroa with Apivar in Aug/ Sept and Oxalic acid in December. £160 each. Discount if more than one is required. Supplied in correx travel/ nuc box. Price includes £10 refundable deposit for box.

Full colonies of overwintered bees for sale on 11 National frames. 

Ready from last week April/ beginning May. Local bees on frames only or can be bought as the complete hive including hardware. Headed by a 2022 bred queen. Treated for Varroa with Apivar in Aug/ Sept and Oxalic Acid in December. On Frames only, £200: including hive, £POA.

Collection, or can deliver locally within 10-15′ ish miles of Haverfordwest for cost of fuel.

We are looking forward to welcoming back Professor Jürgen Tautz as the final guest lecture of our winter webinar series. Prof Tautz will be joining us online on Wednesday the 5th of April to talk about the nest of the honey bee.
Prof Tautz is a behavioural scientist, socio-biologist and bee expert. He is Professor of the Biocentre at the Julius-Maximilians-University in Würzburg, Germany and founder and chair of its BEE research group. He is also the author of several popular science books on bees and holder of the Communicator Award of the DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft – German Research Foundation).
